Hong Kong’s future is bright.
A riot is a riot anywhere in the world, and must be dealt with firmly.
The US, U.K. and other governments have made threats. But at least their warships are not in China ports, unlike 1840s. And the Western media have only one view. That’s right: one view.
Over three decades, I have written many articles for the mainstream Western media (NYT, FT, Bloomberg, SCMP, WSJ, Reuters, AFR and Nikkei), and I find it easier to get published if my pieces are critical of China.
But on the governance of Hong Kong , my articles will not see the light of day. So much for fair press.
I’m optimistic of Hong Kong’s future. I’m glad to see Beijing take up the gauntlet. If Shanghai and Shenzhen can prosper, why not Hong Kong? Who is afraid of brain drain? For every leaver, there is a newcomer. For every seller, there is a buyer.
